The existing classifications in the field of forensics show that the processes of digitalisation are reflected in them as a specific characteristic brought by digital technologies to the sections of forensics, which remain unchanged in the ways of achieving the goals and solving the tasks of criminal proceedings. However, in modern conditions, digitalisation is not only a technical means to raise the quality of the results of forensic activity, but also to talk about those significant changes occurring in general in criminalistics and having its impact on the structure and system of the investigated field of knowledge and practical activity. It is not possible to attribute digitalisation to the technical means of forensic science due to the breadth of coverage and diversity of forms of application of digital technologies in this field. There are certain grounds for the statement that in modern conditions there are prerequisites for the recognition of the fifth section of forensic science - digital.
